DAY TO GO
The most interesting person alive I’m certain.
An actress and playwright, Elexa ran away from high school to join the Circus- schools of Scandinavia. Yes. Elexa attended Circus Schools in Finland, Denmark and Sweden. The goals of a contemporary
circus education: help students to become unique, creative, versatile and technically highly skilled artist with a professional attitude. Her focus was initially aerial (trapeze and silks), then she was the flyer in partner acrobatics and eventually she majored in handstand.
Moved to California at the age of 21 to traverse the country (a la Jack Kerouac) and become a novelist.
This seemed plausible to a young woman who had hitchhiked across Western-Europe numerous times. In California she eventually returned to school and promptly returned to the performing when falling in love with stage-acting.
Elexa finally hopped that cross-country train when she boarded Amtrak in early January 2015 and arrived in NYC 3 days later to pursue her dream of acting. A recent graduate of the Playhouse West BROOKLYN-LAB, she is currently acting, producing her first one act play, collaborating on the writing of a feature film, and researching for a TV series about boxing- which she cannot say another word about!
And wait the best part yet: she loves to box!
On her love of boxing:
“ Boxing is so pure and clean. It’s technique, but it’s muscle memory. It’s not like writing or acting,
where you are constantly thinking, or pulling back or evaluating- you just DO, out of instinct, and if it’s wrong do it again. And when you get it right do it again until it’s like breathing. It has actually helped
me to be freer in my acting and less self-critical in writing. In art you want to hit a sweet part where the critical mind is shut down and you are operating from the heart- like a channel. In boxing I get to
shut my analytical brain off and just be COMPLETELY PRESENT. “
She is overjoyed to fundraise with her fighting. “The only thing that could be better than fighting for yourself is to fight for others! All the sweat and tears and aches and breaks are private badges of victory, but if these sacrifices can go to help others, everyone is a winner.”
This is Elexa’s first bout.
