I am writing to you today to ask for your support of this effort. You may wonder how it is to raise kids with special needs. My parents' love was renewed on September 2011 when I was born. They thought their world was coming to an end little did they know. I was born with Down syndrome, heart defects, low muscle tone and all sort of health issues. My mother told me that during my heart surgery at 6 months of age, she was so worried that I was going to be sick and weak and all she wanted, was to see me open my eyes again. When I woke up, I was given water because of my fragile health but I wanted something more substantial. With caution I was given 4 ounces of milk, which I had no problem drinking. The medical team was surprised but my parents knew then that I was here to live life the way it is meant to be done. Work hard and have fun. I’ve taught them to persevere, to love but to be strict and follow through. I hope they are learning from me every day that life is not about winning but about enjoying the journey. It is ok to feel sad, happy, loved, all the range of emotions. I am lucky to be part of such a caring family.
Please donate money to the DSAGR. By donating you are enriching the Down syndrome community by giving us the opportunity to grow, experience life and contribute to our community because we have a lot to share.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for being part of my life; your love and support is very much appreciated.
