My mom and I always had a special relationship and shared many crazy, funny adventures. My Mom would later compare them to Carol Burnett skits when retelling the stories. It was me who first noticed the signs of Alzheimer's. When travelling to China on business, I brought my Mom along many times as my assistant. It was on our last couple of trips that I realized something was not right. Mom was repeatedly asking the same questions. Some of her hygiene habits were off. She was constantly losing items only to later find them in some crazy spot where she had hidden them herself. When I told my sister about these odd behaviors, she didn't believe it could add up to something so serious. My Mom was in her early 60s and it just did not seem possible. Unfortunately, it was years later that the signs became all too obvious to the family and we finally had her diagnosed. We are grateful that Mom is in a safe place, being well taken care of and always has a happy go lucky attitude.
Because of my mom, I dedicate much of my time to raising awareness and educating others about Alzheimer’s and have joined the Alzheimer’s Board of Directors to help raise funds to find a cure. During the day, I am the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator at Macy’s Center City. In 2017 I was nominated as the first Philadelphia Ambassador for Women's Entrepreneurship Day, a global event celebrated in 144 countries. I created its inaugural event which celebrated female entrepreneurs in the Philadelphia region.
The Fashion Incubator is hosting the fashion show for the 2018 Wine Women and Shoes event benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley, April 15th at the Merion Cricket Club. This is the 4th consecutive year, that my team of designers and myself have supported this event. It’s a fun afternoon of fashion and wine for a cause, and all proceeds benefit Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter.
My goal is to let others know the facts about Alzheimer’s and put a face to the disease. If you would like to support the ongoing research of the Alzheimer’s Association, I would be very grateful for your contribution and you can donate here. If you prefer to donate in my mom’s name, Lynda Bloom, for physician outreach and other initiatives, you can mail your donation directly to:
