BENEFITING: INJURED MARINE SEMPER FI FUND
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
I wasn't a runner in 2005, that is until my planned MCM 8K walk turned into a memorial race for one of our local Marines. LCpl Shane was 24 when he was KIA in Iraq on September 15, 2005. It crossed my mind during one training walk that one simply cannot walk a memorial race for a Marine: one must make every effort to pick up the pace! After a 'walk a minute, run a minute' start, I ran the 8K...slowly! The 8K gave way to a 10K, then a half and another half...and since two halfs make a whole, to seven full marathons.
This year I am ramping it up again, with the MCM one weekend and NYC the next. As with my previous marathons, I am running to raise funds for the Semper Fi Fund, as always in memory of 'my ' Marine. Please consider a generous donation to honor and care for our injured and ill military members and their families.
The Semper Fi Fund and America’s Fund provide immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post-9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families, ensuring that they have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back to their communities. Since establishing the Semper Fi Fund in 2004, we’ve issued more than 106,000 grants, totaling more than $120 million in assistance to over 15,000 of our heroes and their families.
The Semper Fi Fund has been awarded the highest ratings from watch dog groups: A+ Top Rated Charity from CharityWatch, and we are one of only three veteran nonprofits to receive this rating in recent years; and 4 Stars from Charity Navigator a rating only given to 4% of all charities. We maintain an extremely low overhead - 6% and we provide rapid assistance with no red tape.
