According to the Center for Disease Control, drowning is the #2 cause of accidental death among all children in the U.S., and the #1 leading cause of accidental death among minority children.* But it is 100% preventable. It costs about $100 to teach a child to swim, and thereby save their life. But many families in our local community simply can't afford to teach their kids to swim.
Swim 24Challenge (www.swim24.org) is a local fundraiser designed to combat childhood drowning in San Diego. Last year, we raised over $90,000! Help by donating, participating, or both! It takes place at the UCSD Canyonview Aquatics Center in La Jolla, August 27-28th (noon-noon).
