This Mother’s Day the Starke Girls will be walking in Honor of our Mudduh, Dorothy Starke.
Over the years Mudduh has taught Fran and I to be tenacious in our values, and to always stand up for what we believe in. As a single mom, she had to work hard to provide everything we needed... and she made sure to teach us the importance of compassion and hard work.
That's why making change for the women in our community is so important to us both. For many mothers, the struggle of keeping food on the table and a roof over their heads is all too real. Since 2013 the rate of unsheltered women in Portland has increased by 15%, and unsheltered families by 24%. At Rose Haven we provide safety, services and support to women who have no place else to turn.
Please join me in staking a stance (or really a stroll) in response to the housing crisis this Mother's Day, as we reclaim the streets for survivors of homlessnes and abuse.
