Hello again, I wanted to ta…
Hello again,

I wanted to take a minute and let you all know just how much your support meant to me throughout the process. Marathon Monday was a magical day, an experience that will forever be one of my most treasured.

Because of generous supporters like you, we raised almost $800,000.00 as a team and I raised over $15,000.00. To have spent so much time with the survivors and to see how brave and strong they are was inspiring. We will forever be connected and remain friends, such a strong bond now exists.

As I ran, I had aches and pains, it was hot and the hills were relentless. I wanted you to know I smiled, for almost the entire race. The small challenges were overshadowed by the inspiration and support. It was incredible, I hope you knew you were there with me. At mile 23 I came upon Team Hoyt, if you know their story you know I was immediately a blubbering mess. If you don't, please look them up, they are they epitome of Boston Strong. They were walking, Dick was struggling (he is 74). I walked up to him and said "Dick, I know today is tough. I also know this is your last Boston Marathon. I want you to know that I have many more races in me, because of you." He thanked me and I walked to the finish line with him and his team. It was emotional and beautiful, certainly one of many highlights.

The day after finishing (the entire team finished!) Marathon Sports was engraving medals. It allowed you to have your name and time engraved on the back. Mine now reads "Tammy Knight-Gibbons and under time reads "magical".

I found out that our entire team utilized not one dollar of your donations to coordinate everything. 100% of money collected by Crowdrise with the exception of their fees, went to the survivors and the victims' families. Our team was put together with love and donations from sponsors and volunteers.

It was magical. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of all those you have helped, they would like to thank you as well.

Love,
Tammy Knight-Gibbons

Hi again, Just a quick updat…
Hi again,
Just a quick update for all of my supporters and generous donors. As you can see, we are only $1,000.00 away from the final goal of $15,000.00. That is truly remarkable and I am so grateful for your support. If you have some friends or family you would like to share the link with, to help us reach the final goal before April 21st, I would be so grateful!

Before our team run yesterday, we donned our new, very orange, team singlets and joined hundreds of Bostonians at the finish line of the race to take part in a Sports Illustrated cover photo shoot. The turnout was incredible. I doubt we're at all visible, but if you notice an orange blob in the far right of the cover photo for the April 16 issue, that's us!

As we stood in the cold waiting for the photographer, people mingled. Women handed out blue and yellow scarves, hand knitted and crocheted by Massachusetts residents, to all of the runners. Firefighters from the nearby Boylston Street station, who recently suffered a new tragedy, losing two of of their own in a nine-alarm blaze last month, joined the throngs. Employees of Marathon Sports, some of whom took it upon themselves to organize our team after their finish line store became a makeshift triage unit last April, congregated with the rest of us. Shop owners came out of their stores. Families drove in from the suburbs. Kids climbed trees. Adults climbed trees. And like that day nearly a year ago, police officers lined the streets. This time, they were smiling and waving at the camera.
I knew many of the faces around me. Had it not been for the events of last April, I would never have met these people, nor would I have seen the dynamic and unexpected ways in which individuals within a community can support one another. Yesterday, we were all runners, even those who had never pounded the pavement. We were all Bostonians, because we were there to share the spirit of the moment. Thanks to all of them and to all of you, I count myself lucky to be part of that process.

I'll be thinking of you during this final week of taper, pasta consumption, and excitement to return to the course next Monday. Thanks for your friendship and support.
With love,
Tammy
