THE STORY:

The Story Of Ellie and I.

It was just another cold winter day when I walked into one of Toronto Animal Services shelter and met Ellie (Previously named Delilah). She was the first dog I saw when I walked into the kennel. She quickly began barking and growling at me.

When I opened the door she ran out, tail tucked behind her. She was afraid but well behaved for the most part. I asked the shelter staff for more information about her. She had been in the shelter longer than any of the other current dogs there. The staff member explained that she was a big suck, and extremely friendly but when she was locked up she showed a different side. The staff also explained that because she was a larger dog, and a mutt (mixed breeds) that there was very little interest in her.

After spending some time with Ellie, I had to put her back in her cage to meet the other dogs. She resisted, but eventually the staff helped me put her back in. My heart broke, as this calm warm-hearted pup went from calm and loving to aggressive and noisy again. I met a few other dogs and then left to view the other shelters.

After seeing 4 other shelters that day I decided I needed to bring Ellie home with me as soon as possible. I went back to the first shelter and adopted her. She did not hesitate to jump in the car and come home with me.

The next week I signed her up for obedience lessons. It turns out this abandoned dog just needed a little love and polishing around the edges. Anyone that meets Ellie always comments on how great of a dog she is.

Ellie was found abandoned, and as a result no one knew of her date of birth.

I decided to give her my birthday, June 12th.

Given that Ellie has everything she already needs, I think it would be great to still collect monetary gifts, but give them all to the Toronto Animal Services, where Ellie came from. This way her gift can go towards other animals in need. Please help us get $500 to donate to Toronto Animal Services for Ellie's birthday.

Any donation amount is appreciated. :)

Thank you for all the love and support.
