Hey Everyone! My name is Ellie Irish and I'm currently a junior at Colby College studying Environmental Chemistry and Sociology.
This January I have the privilege of traveling to Ghana for three weeks with Saha Global, a non-profit organization, and partaking in their Global Leadership Program. There I will be constructing a water purification business, built to be run by community-appointed women. This water business will become an entrepreneurship opportunity for the women in the village, selling the newly potable water to family, neighbors, and friends.
Why donate to Saha?
Saha partners with communities that drink from contaminated surface water sources, like rivers or ponds. In the northern region of Ghana, where I’ll be, 40% of the population lacks access to clean drinking water. The village where I’ll be working is currently drinking fecally contaminated water… yuck!
100% of the 76 water businesses Saha has launched are still in operation today and are completely run by the female entrepreneurs. You can’t beat a statistic like that!
Your donation will go 100% towards purchasing the in-country equipment needed to build and maintain the water purification business. The equipment needed includes: large drums to treat and store the water in, chlorine tablets, water taps, etc. Each household will also receive a safe storage container to keep their new, clean water in.
Every cent counts towards this amazing opportunity to empower women in solving their village’s health problems around clean water through entrepreneurship. Any help is truly appreciated and know that if you choose to donate, you will be making a lasting impact on a rural community’s quality of public health!
