April 27, 2017
Growing up 30 miles from the finish line and watching the marathon each year, I have always dreamed of crossing the finish line myself. This year, thanks to Ellis, the John Hancock Marathon program, and you, I will make this dream a reality! Boston 2017 will be my first marathon and what better way to tackle this challenge than fundraising for an organization I am truly passionate about?
As the social worker for the Early Education and School Age programs at Ellis for the past two years I have had the unique opportunity to work with children and families across all stages of growth and development in Boston’s South End. From small daily victories of wiping away tears and tying shoelaces, to much larger ones like connecting families to resources they desperately need, working here has allowed me to be a part of so much positive change.
I have directly seen the impact of what generous donations can do– a warm coat for a child to survive the harsh Boston winters, volunteers giving their time to read and promote literacy in the classrooms, and grants and corporate funding for renovations to our space at 66 Berkeley Street. The best and biggest impact of all is seeing happy, healthy, smart kids thriving in our community each day.
I know getting to that finish line won’t be easy come April 17th – it will literally be an uphill battle at points! But, with your support of Ellis’ crucial programming (and of course me!), I know we can make this dream a reality. I’m inviting you to be a part of the positive change and consider donating to Team Ellis today!
