I will be trekking to Everst Base camp with ToiletHackers and Steve Obbayi who will be the first Kenyan to climb Everest. He's climbing not just for himself, not just for his home country of Kenya, but for the 2.5 billion people who do not have access to a toilet, a basic need that most of us take for granted. Sanitation is an orphaned cause that often left behind at the bottom of the global to-do list, even though it affects everything, including our health, education, environment, economies, and particularly women and girls.
This expedition is about more than just raising awareness. With your support, we're launching the #Trek4Toilets CrowdRise campaign to raise funds for life-saving sanitation and hygiene programs around the world, starting with a hygiene project in Mathare, a slum in Steve's home town of Nairobi, Kenya. Our goal is to provide hygiene training and tools to at least 2 people for every meter Steve climbs on Everest. At 8,848, that's more than 18,000 people who we can support in living healthier, happier lives.
Let's get climbing. Let's do epic shit.
