Elrey is a rescue dog, saved from a high-kill shelter in Georgia as he was due to be put down, and brought to DC by the Washington Animal Rescue League. He has an amazing personality, hops around like a circus dog, loves hanging out with his friends, Lucy and Oliver, and has brought an amazing amount of joy to everyone he meets. When you see him, you can't help but smile. He loves tummy rubs, and will come and sit upright next to you and show you where best to pet him.
He has allergies, which make his coat a little patchy, but he isn't usually troubled by it. He looks a little rough sometimes, but his bright eyes and personality more than make up for that.
On May 29, his breathing became labored and he became lethargic. When taken to the vet, they said they thought he was in heart failure. They gave him medication and his respiration rate came down and he was sent home. Later, it increased again and he was referred to The Hope Center for cardiological care.
The Hope Center is wonderful, and they determined what exactly was wrong with him (pulmonary hypertension, plus an issue with his kidneys processing protein which is causing blood clots.) They kept him in an oxygen kennel overnight and began a course of pharmaceutical treatment. He came home the next evening, and is almost back to himself.
However, there is the matter of the bill. The total of all vet bills plus, medicines is over $3500. I thought I would create this fundraiser to see if generous souls would donate to help me cover the costs.
