Football season is underway which means the Elverado Cheerleaders are gearing up for a new season! They are very excited and practicing hard so they can make their school and community proud. Unfortunately, unlike many sports where the uniform is provided, the cheerleading squad at Elverado Middle School does not have that luxury. These girls work hard to support their team, school, and community with pride Cheerleading takes a great amount of strength, stamina, and dedication, and believe me each and every one of these young ladies are completely dedicated to the sport of cheerleading! Sadly, like many families in southern Illinois, it is difficult for some of their families to provide the basic day-to-day necessities; a uniform is a luxury that they just cannot afford.
Put yourself in their place for just a moment; imagine showing up for the first game of the season with your cheer sisters, your team. You are excited and nervous before you step out on the field, but you are also thinking that you shouldn’t be there, you do not fit in. You are not wearing the team uniform, you are wearing what you could find at home that would hopefully help you blend so no on notices.
I believe that if these young ladies have the courage, strength, and dedication to become part of the team, then they should be able to proudly wear the uniform as a team member.
So I have taken on the job of raising enough money to purchase uniforms for four young ladies that deserve to not only be a part of the team, but to look the part as well. If you are one of those people that believe that cheerleading is more than just yelling and jumping, please consider joining me in my effort by donating money to help these young ladies. Your donation will help these young women build skills that will help them throughout their lives, such as being a team player, gaining self-esteem, building trust (which is especially difficult for children who have been through difficult life experiences), maintaining a positive attitude, and developing leadership and time management skills. But most importantly you will be providing an opportunity for these four young ladies to have fun and do something that they enjoy.
