We’re planning an energy-efficient renovation of our business center that will help us create an environmentally friendly workplace, save energy and operate more efficiently. By lowering our costs, we can generate more jobs for the people we serve. At Elwyn, Sustainability is Working in so many ways!
There is nothing more exciting than helping someone who was told they could never get a job to earn their first paycheck. But, the paycheck is just the beginning. Suddenly, the world opens and dependence on others fades away.
A woman who has never gone into the community without supervision is invited out to a ball game as part of employee appreciation day. A gentleman who was not allowed to go to the corner store becomes the “go to” person for directions at a gas station. A young man written off as incapable due to mental illness becomes a foreman.
These are the success stories of Elwyn Industies, the Business Division of Elwyn, one of the nation’s oldest human services agencies.
Elwyn operates diversified businesses that provide training and job opportunities to people with disabilities. Because we compete for work with other businesses, we need to provide high-quality work, at a competitive price. Elwyn can keep prices down through energy-efficient technologies that lower our operating costs. So, by operating more sustainably, we can create more jobs!
Elwyn need funds for energy-saving equipment. We’re planning a renovation of our Bridgewater Work Center in Aston, Pa. The plan is to replace our old, energy-wasting equipment with new energy-efficient equipment. Our goal is to raise funds for the purchase of:
- 450 energy-saving light fixtures
- 30 flush-sensor toilets
- 15 energy efficient replacement windows
- New, energy-efficient HVAC system.
- Heat reclamation system
- High-efficiency boilers
- Efficient washers and chemical systems
- Water re-use system
- Hot water return line
- Motion sensors
