As a former resident of Newtown, CT I am devastated beyond words. On numerous occasions, Newtown has been there for my family with unconditional love and support. I feel obligated to support my former hometown and do whatever I can to comfort those in need.
My mother was a big supporter of the town with the flagpole in the middle of Main Street and the infamous General Store. She loved and cared for many children during her time there as well. About a year after we moved away from Newtown, my mother passed away. My family and I still cherish the love and support we still receive from Newtown, even years after we have moved away.
I would like to give the gift to the mothers and family members of the victims, a gift my mother once gave to me. My mother, Deborah Fahey created these charm bracelets and necklaces for the five members in my family to remind us that we have to embrace what we have here on earth and the people we love. The charm bracelets say on one side “The Hands That Held You, The Hands That Hold You”. And the other side are ten handprints my mother once traced of my families hands. I am currently working with the Jeweler to be able to change the ten handprints to 26 handprints on the molding.
Watching the way in which Newtown has handled such a tragic situation is absolutely remarkable. The donations that have already been made to these families and the community are extraordinary. I am asking for any support and small donations to give the mothers and any other family members of the victims the gift of this treasured charm bracelet.
When I wear my bracelet on my weak days, it provides me the strength to know my mother is still with me. I can only hope and pray we can give these mothers and families a tiny bit of strength at this fragile time with this gift. ALWAYS remember the hands that held you and the hands that hold you. We are Newtown.
