BENEFITING: Every Mother Counts
ORGANIZER: Every Mother Counts
EVENT: NYC Half 2014
EVENT DATE: Mar 16, 2014
Thank you for visiting my NYC Half Marathon Fundraising page! I am so happy to be running for Every Mother Counts, a charity that supports women's reproductive health, both domestically and internationally.
My story: On March 28, 2013, I had spinal surgery due to two herniated discs in my lower back. At the time, I couldn't walk on my own and I wasn't sure that I would be able to ever do any type of exercise ever again. The surgery was a success and I kept up with physical therapy to make sure that I healed correctly. It was an awesome point in my recovery process when my doctor said that I was no longer restricted from any activity... I could go and burn some rubber on the pavement!
I will be running this half marathon 12 days short of the one year anniversary of my surgery, which proves that it was nothing less than a miracle! I have had the most amazing support from my family and friends and I hope you continue to cheer me on through this next achievement!
And, of course, thank you to the best running buddy and heal support a girl could ask for... Blaire, you're the greatest ;-) For those of you who don't know... we will be running this race together!
Please read about the organization below:
Hundreds of thousands of women die during pregnancy and childbirth each year. That's 800 women every day. The good news is that 90% of these deaths can be prevented. We have the tools and the know-how to save these mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, teachers, doctors, caregivers and community leaders—if we make it a priority.
Every Mother Counts is a campaign to end preventable deaths caused by pregnancy and childbirth around the world. Every Mother Counts informs, engages, and mobilizes new audiences to take action to improve the health and well-being of girls and women worldwide.
This year, join us in solidarity to run the 2014 New York City Half Marathon and continue raising awareness about this global tragedy. We've chosen to participate in the race because often distance is the biggest barrier to a woman and her family getting the care they need. We hope to not only increase awareness for the cause but to also make the vital connection for people that so many pregnant women live far from health services around the world and that distance does make a difference. Simply put, we want to run so that others don't have to...
Together, with your help and our miles, we can make pregnancy and childbirth safe for all moms.
