EVENT DATE: Nov 23, 2013
In 2012 I supported and cheered on a person who I was close to as he completed his first El Tour. It was two days later that I decided I wanted to train and ride the same ride in 2013. Between that late November Saturday and February of 2013 my life changed in a way that I would never imagine. Thanks to the support of friends and family I was able to come out of my situation a stronger woman.
Domestic abuse is still very much alive in our society, unfortunately. There are many untold stories out there and it could happen to your friend, neighbor, sibling, cousin; domestic abuse does not discriminate.
I am dedicating my inaugural El Tour de Tucson ride to EMERGE! Center Against Domestic Abuse. The center provides domestic abuse crisis intervention and housing, prevention and education, and support and advocacy services to anyone experiencing domestic abuse. Emerge! is the largest domestic abuse shelter and provider of domestic abuse prevention and abuse programs in Southern Arizona.
Everyone should know how amazing, how strong, and how much they truly deserve to be loved unconditionally. As I make my 111-mile journey on November 23 I urge you to support me by donating to this amazing organization that helps those in need a chance to rebuild their dreams.
