W.C. Fields is coming home!
June 09, 2016
Sometimes good kittens do really bad things . . . like eat things they aren't supposed to eat. That's what happened to one of Bean's all-time favorite itty bitty foster kitties--W.C. Fields, the adorable little foster kitten who has cerebellar hypoplasia. Fields managed to find and eat something that caused his intestines to come together like an accordion and stop working. He quickly became septic and was rushed into emergency surgery at U.C. Davis on Wednesday night and surgeons successfully removed a string that the little guy had tried to swallow. One end was caught under his tongue, and the other end had passed all the way down through his esophagus, stomach, and into his small intestines. The estimate for the surgery and the care he will need afterwards was $4500 to $7500. Ouch! It's a lot of money, but euthanasia was the only other option and W.C. Fields is priceless in our book. We will have W.C. Fields repay his donors by doing public service announcements about the importance of not eating things that are not food. If you can contribute, we would greatly appreciate it. And please keep little W.C Fields in your thoughts. He's not out of the woods quite yet, though things are looking much better.
