EMERGENCY: HELP MY MOM
My name is Energy Maburutse and I am from a small village called Buwu in Zimbabwe. I am studying B.A in International Communications, Media and Politics with a minor in International Business at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. I am reaching out to you as a way to raise funds for my mother who is currently on bed rest fighting breast cancer.
My mother Chimbidzikai was diagnosed with cancer a year ago, and due to financial constraints my family and I were not able to get her any treatment. However, over a couple of weeks ago, her situation got even worse and I am asking for your assistance in getting her the best doctors and treatment she needs.
To give a glimpse of the reason why my mother is such an important person to me, let me briefly tell you about my story. I was born with a bone condition called Osteogenesis Impecta- ‘brittle bone syndrome.' In my culture, people with disability are treated differently; they are associated with witchcraft. So, the day I was born people from my village and part of my family could not understand why all of a sudden, a child like me had been conceived.
People turned their backs on my mother accusing her of being a witch and blaming her for bringing bad lucky to the family. But, she did not give up on me. She fought against all odds, taught me to be who I am today and encouraged me to always do my best at anything I set out to do. I am glad she is part of my life and my dream is for her to see the flowers she grew within me blooming.
But this dream cannot come true if I am not part of the fight she is in right now. I believe in her just as she believed in me when it mattered most. For me to be able to fight this together with her, I need your help. Over the past few weeks college colleagues, outside friends and I have managed to put together some funds to get my mother out of the village to a town where the medical treatment will be significantly better, however there is still more treatments that are needed. The doctors are saying that the disease is spreading fast and as we stand now it has started affecting her liver. She needs a place to live close to the hospital, food and some basic necessities. But mostly, she needs treatment- chemotherapy and a potential operation- and I am counting on your donations to help in the fight that my mom is in right now.
