THE STORY:

Hi All

I am very excited to tell you that I have joined the Mass General Emergency Response Marathon Team, and plan to run the historic 119th Boston Marathon on April 20th to raise money to support this very special cause.

The world witnessed the tragic events at the Boston Marathon in 2013. Mass General was on the forefront of care after the bombing. Big Papi said it best “This is our city, and nobody going to dictate our freedom. Stay strong.”  Funds raised will be used to provide social services support for victims and families of disasters and will support emergency care, disaster relief and disaster preparedness training.

On another personal note, I am also running in honor of Vivien’s dad, Jim Greene, who died on December 15th, 2014. He was a former athlete who in his day excelled at rugby, cycling and golf.

I’d love to see you along the marathon route and also at the finish line when my self-imposed hiatus from local bars will come to a long awaited end.

My goal is to raise a minimum of $5,000. Please remember your company may match your donation.

I am honored to run for these reasons. Thank you for your support!!!

-Jeff

MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL wrote -

Following the tragedy of the 2013 marathon bombings, Mass General was fortunate to receive 40 guaranteed entries from the Boston Athletic Association to create an Emergency Response Marathon Team.  For the second straight year, thanks to John Hancock, Mass General will have 40 spots for runners on the Emergency Response Marathon Team. The funds raised provide critical support for emergency care, disaster relief and disaster preparedness training at Mass General, efforts that benefit victims worldwide.

Team runners raise money to ensure that Mass General is ready for the next disaster – man-made or natural. Marathon funds support the training and resources needed to develop a carefully, integrated response that spans multiple departments throughout the hospital.

“There’s no room for error,” says David Brown, MD, chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mass General. “Our performance must be flawless. As in football, if one player of the 11 on the field doesn’t do the job, the play fails.”

At Mass General, we take emergency planning very seriously. Preparing for the next disaster takes much training and practice. And donors are critical to our success. Time spent training is not covered by insurance and often takes place outside work hours. Money raised by the Mass General Emergency Response team allows Mass General to ready at a moment’s notice.
