Dear all, On Saturday May 3…
Dear all,

On Saturday May 3rd we (a couple of members of the 42*42*42-Take a Run, Win a Smile Team) had the opportunity to hand the check to the foundation "Formula Sonrisas". We were able to raise through various mechanisms (including crowdrise) the US$42.000.00 we had set as target. Not only did we hand over the check but also ran 4 different races with the children. We ran a 200 meter race with children under the age of 5, a 1km race for children between ages 5 and 8, a 3km race for children between 9 and 11 and 5km open category race.

Over 300 children participated in the event including the community leaders and parents. The venue was very well organized.

For us at 42*42*42-Take a Run, Win a Smile it was an extremely gratifying experience to see the excitement of the children. We were thrilled to see the excitement with which the children participated in the event and in particular see the glow in their eyes when some of them saw themselves running side by side Juan Pablo Montoya.

At 42*42*42-Take a Run, Win a Smile seeing this event come together is a proof that even though there is a long road to help Colombia out of violence and poverty it is possible as long as we all put our minds and hearts towards that goal.

It was also gratifying to see that the community leaders and parents convinced the mayor to accelerate the paving of some of the roads in the community to ensure the venue was of the highest standards.

We have attached some pictures of the event in the crowdrise web page (www.crowdrise.com/42-winasmile). Please do not hesitate in contacting any of us should you want more information.

We sincerely wanted to thank all of you for your support and for believing in our audacious goal. We also wanted to thank Juan Pablo Montoya and Connie for their commitment to these children and to Colombia.

We have already started to work on our next project incorporating all the lessons learned. If any of you have any comments or suggestions please do let us know. Our end goal of helping Colombia out of violence and poverty remains the same, but the more help, ideas and support we have the quicker we will be able to reach the goal.

Once again thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Yours Truly,

Dear All, Unfortunately thi…
Dear All,

Unfortunately this note does not capture the gratitude we feel for your kind donations. Simply put, THANK YOU. What started off as a dream became much bigger. We have now collected US$36.000 between crowdrise and direct donations to the foundation. More importantly we were able to gather 42 runners for a cause. It is really satisfying to see that HOPE does indeed exist and there are people out there willing help to make a difference. You are all living proof of that hope and kindness. We received a lot of kind donations from Colombia but they were not limited to that. We received donations from several parts of the world including UK, Malaysia, Canada, The Netherlands, USA, Brasil, Venezuela.

On Sunday February 2nd the 42 runners from the 42*42*42-Take a Run, Win a Smile completed the marathon or the half marathon. For many of us it was the first time that we either ran a marathon or a half marathon and there was indeed a lot of anxiety. The temperature was really high and humid which made the run altogether more difficult. None the less all of the runners were there at the start line knowing that we were running for much more than the 42 kilometers. All of the members completed the run; all with outstanding performances and with a great sense of accomplishment.

On May 3rd, 2014 we will be travelling to Villa Lorena to "deliver" the check directly to the foundation. Juan Pablo Montoya (Formula Cart Champion, ex-Formula 1 driver and winner of 7 grand prix including Monaco) and Connie (his wife and director of the foundation) will be traveling with us. We will be holding a couple of 1K and 5K races with the children and professors. We will spend time and look at how th emoney is going to be invested. we will monitor these donations. We will keep you posted. If any of you is interested in participating in the event please send Ricardo Sarmiento (rsarmiento@talisman-energy.com), Carlos Barros (cbarros@talisman-energy.com) or myself (je.estrada@gmail.com) a note so we can include you in the event.

Once again, on behalf of the 42*42*42-Take a run, win a Smile runners, thank you for your support and trust.

We have TAKEN A RUN, and now we are going to WIN THE SMILES....
