BENEFITING: One Love Foundation in honor of Yeardley Love
EVENT DATE: Oct 15, 2016
Thank you for visiting my page! I will be running the marathon in the Baltimore Running Festival on Oct. 15th as a charity runner for the One Love Foundation. This will be my first marathon!
The One Love Foundation is in honor of Yeardley Love, a young girl who grew up in the Baltimore area, graduated from NDP, and went on to play lacrosse at UVA. The "One" comes from the number Yeardley wore during her career playing lacrosse. In 2010 during her senior year, she was beaten to death by her boyfriend. The mission of One Love is to raise awareness about the warning signs of abuse and to educate young people on how to put an end to relationship violence. One Love does this by having escalation workshops throughout different areas in the US in various schools, promoting Yards for Yeardley, and many other campaigns. One Love's campaigns get people talking about this difficult topic, therefore inspiring change.
A few facts about relationship violence,
-"1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime"
- "women ages 18 to 34 are at greatest risk of becoming victims of domestic violence"
-"more than 4 million women experience physical assault by their partners"
This being my first marathon, I knew I wanted to do it for a bigger purpose, and raise money for a charity that I fully support. All of the money raised will go to the One Love Foundation where they will use it to spread Yeardley's story, bring their escalation workshops to more areas in the US and to develop even more inventive campaigns. Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated.
