BENEFITING: CELEBRATE LIFE HALF MARATHON
EVENT DATE: Mar 09, 2014
I am "Running to Kick Prostate Cancer in the Nuts." You may find this a little vulgar - my mom always says "Emily, you don't have to be gross to be funny!" My dad, whose sense of humor I inherited, would get a real kick out of it. I will be running this race in honor of my dad, Patrick, who died of prostate cancer 4 ½ years ago. I will be running to celebrate his life, which ended much too early.
My initial goal was to raise enough to have a mile marker placed in my father’s honor. This marker will be a reminder of his love of life, family, friends, and his community. When I see it, I will remember that love. I know he would support me in this endeavor and would want to help others with their fight against cancer with the donation of this money.
I can not thank everyone enough for the overwhelming support, I reached my original goal within the first few hours and it has only motivated me to raise more for this amazing cause.
To make it EVEN better, all funds raised will be donated directly to patient care - with no administrative or overhead expenses. Donations will stay local, helping cancer patients in Orange and Sullivan County. Patients are helped with direct payment of any medical expenses - physician co-pays, transportation, prescriptions, dental bills and support groups. At times the money is also used to help the patients pay their rent or buy food.
While my father received treatment, my family had many sources of support. Aunts and uncles were willing to drive my dad to chemo or radiation, friends and community members helped by cooking for us, providing acupuncture at home, and building a ramp at our house (among many other things). I am so thankful for the support they provided during such a difficult time. I appreciate the opportunity to give back to other families in need.
I would appreciate any amount you are able to contribute (large or small) to this wonderful cause. I hope that together we are able to aid in the fight against cancer and “kick prostate cancer in the nuts.”
