We were super fortunate to have someone donate their time and equipment to make a video of the 5K last Saturday. I thought that some of you might enjoy seeing it: http://vimeo.com/mikelwisler/sobo5k2014

Hello to all of you!! THANK…
Hello to all of you!!

THANK YOU to each and every one of you who showed up today and worked so hard to raise awareness about human trafficking!

It was cold, and our walkers got thoroughly soaked. But everyone rallied together and did such an amazing job of encouraging one another. I heard multiple times today that people are hoping that we will have more of these.

I have a few updates for you.

First of all, if you are interested, your times can be found here: http://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=31898#.VFV13-Ru3Uc.gmail.

Secondly, as of this moment, we have raised a total of $7,083.22!! That is truly amazing! I was just chatting this afternoon with some of the people who ran this morning about our dreams of having the coffee shop that could function as a drop-in center for trafficked victims and would also have rooms in the back for Center activities. There was lots of momentum today. We met the husband of a woman who works as a lawyer in this area of expertise (if I'm not mistaken.) We met a person who works as a trauma counselor. And I heard of a transition home happening in Quincy. Woot, woot!

Thirdly, I have uploaded all the pictures I've seen/found/been given to The River South Center Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TheRiverSouthCenter

Feel free to pass any additional photos along!
If you are interested in being a part of the Justice Task Force, please do let us know!
Hopefully we'll be in touch soon. :)

Thanks everyone!!

We wanted to take a moment to say “THANK YOU!!!” for your recent donation to support your friends and family as they participate in the SOBO Project 5K Run/Walk to End Human Trafficking. One exciting aspect of this 5K is that we are able to talk to more people than any one person at The River South Center knows in order to raise awareness about Human Trafficking.

Trafficking is a form of slavery where people kidnap, trick, or bribe people in order to profit from them by selling them for sex, using them for labor, and/or profiting from their organs.

The River South Center in Quincy, MA is joining forces with people locally and around the world to combat human trafficking. We are working to raise awareness, create safe spaces for at-risk people groups, and raise funds for the center’s goals of workforce training, after-school programs, a fair trade coffee shop, and short-term housing options. Over the course of this last year, we have worked to connect with local businesses (which led to identifying trafficking happening in Quincy) and have hosted several events for local Youth.

There are lots of steps that each of us can take towards ending slavery. One is that we can spread the word. Tell others what you learn and what steps you are taking. Another is that we can become better consumers. Often times we support trafficking with our dollar without even knowing it. One great resource is the Better World Shopper website.

Again, thank you so much for your donation. I can’t say enough about the Free the Slaves TED talk. If you have a social media page, it’s worth a share. The more people we can tell, the more likely we are to reach our goals of ending human trafficking.

All the best to you and yours!
