Dear friends and family, I …
Dear friends and family,

I am writing to let you all know that this Saturday, May 7th at 8:00, I will be taking another shot at running the Boston Marathon. As I wrote in the message that was sent on Marathon Monday, I am still extremely proud of what I have accomplished, both in terms of my preparation and in fundraising for the MetroWest YMCA (well over $6,000!). Still, I feel like this is something I need to do to prove myself I can do it, as well as a gesture of appreciation for all of you who have offered up your support.

The Paul Marathon, as my wife has been calling it, won't be as glamorous or exciting as the actual Boston Marathon, but if you find yourself along the marathon route between 8 and 12:15-ish, depending on where you live, pop out and say hi and let me thank you in person!

Love,
Paul Ray

Hello, As many of you know,…
Hello,

As many of you know, I did not complete the Boston Marathon on Monday. I'll spare you some of the details, but I caught a pretty bad stomach bug and a mild fever on Sunday. I felt well enough to start but after eight miles of running I decided it would be wise of me to bow out of the marathon.

I am still extremely proud of the work I've done on behalf of the MetroWest YMCA, and am so grateful for all the love and encouragement I've received from you all throughout this journey. Thank you all so much, it has meant so much to me.

Love,
Paul Ray

Dear friends and family, Th…
Dear friends and family,

Thank you once again for your kindness, support, and encouraging words. It is hard to believe that the Boston Marathon is just 8 days away! I am so happy to announce that thanks to you, I reached the $5,000 mark a little over a week ago, which was the amount I needed to raise for the MetroWest YMCA. It's felt SO GOOD to just have this part of the marathon behind me, but also amazing to know that I have so many thoughtful people wishing me luck on this journey.

Yesterday I ran my last long run that I'll run before the marathon, a beautiful 8-miler right around the infamous Heartbreak Hill. Between now and next Monday all I have to do is not injure myself, which anyone who knows me knows that that is not a given.

If you want to track my progress on race day, you can do so via the Boston Marathon website. My bib number is 27407. I also learned that there's an app for the Boston Marathon where you can track up to ten runners at a time, so that's pretty cool. My start time is 11:15, so I believe updates will be automatically sent to the website/app every couple miles or so.

If you are in town and not otherwise occupied, please come over to our house after the marathon so I can thank you for your support in person! Starting at 5:00 (until 9-ish), we'll be hosting an open house party at 13 Codman Hill Ave #B in Dorchester, about a 10-minute walk from the Ashmont T stop. There's plenty of parking if you want to drive. We will be providing food and drinks, but please respond to this email if you want to come so we can make sure to have enough food.

Thanks again!!

Hello friends and family! I …
Hello friends and family! I wanted to send my most sincere thanks to you for your gift to my Boston Marathon fundraiser.

Last Saturday I completed my longest run that I will do until the marathon itself: All of us on the MetroWest YMCA marathon team hopped on a bus at 7:30 in the morning, got dropped off at the beginning of the marathon route, and ran 20 miles until we got to the top of the infamous Heartbreak Hill. My feet are still a little tender, but what kept me going through the tough parts was thinking about all the amazing people who have been sending me love and support for the last four months. In fact, on one especially tough hill around Newton Lower Mills, I got especially choked up thinking about the people in my life and I had to "change the channel" in my brain because I was forgetting to breathe properly!

Besides writing to thank you all, I also wanted to give you an update about my running status: I have received some information about my Marathon participation. As the Boston Marathon is a HUGE event, there are multiple waves to break up the running a bit. I'll be in the final wave, in corral 4 (of 8), and I start running at 11:15. You can follow my exact progress on the Boston Marathon website by searching for my name or by entering bib number 27407, or you can just know that I plan to run miles at an average pace of between 8:30 and 9:00 depending on where you want to catch me on the road.

One more thing: If you are in the area, or if you will be on the day of the marathon, please join me at my house for an after-marathon party! More details to come.

I'll send more updates as we get closer to the date. Thank you again!
