In Washington, DC 3,000 children are in foster care; 1,800 children under the age of five are homeless; and 35,000 children live in homes where the next meal is uncertain. Bright Beginnings, Inc is a non-profit organization founded in 1991 to provide childcare and other vital services to homeless families in DC. Since then, more then 2,500 homeless families have been served by the Bright Beginnings program. The annual Bright Beginnings 5K, sponsored by the Junior League of Washington, raises funds for DC’s homeless children. If you are a running or walking in this year’s 5K, make sure to ask your friends and family to sponsor you. It allows your loved ones to donate to this vital organization while supporting your 5K participation. Last year more than $43,000 was raised for Bright Beginnings through individual donations. This year our goal is $50,000 and we can get there with your help. So get the word out. Let everyone know that you’re supporting DC’s homeless kids and ask them to sponsor you.
