THE STORY:
My name is Patricia Maddox living in metro Atlanta. I have served here among refugees for 20 years. I have 3 daughters & one son. My number 3 daughter Emily Heringslake has struggled with alcoholism secondary to ADD self medication for 13 years. She has lost everything: marriage, children( 2 daughters 16 & 15),extended family, house, ability to drive or socialize outside of treatment, hold a job, a bank account, medical insurance, & anything else you can think of that is important to all of us. She has been in & out of treatment for all of those years, willing to try again any place recommended that I could afford. I brought her home from Grady this morning still quite ill with the effects of alcohol toxicity. We heard of and want to try a 90 day program called Hopequest in Woodstock, GA north of us. It was highly recommended by Sunrise private pay detox in Alpharetta. The cost for the time is $25,000. She has, all those years wanted to give back to others, but not being well herself has not been given a platform from which to make that happen. Even so when in treatment women and especially young women listen to her and the advice of her 13 year struggle. I heard of crowdrise through my work with Friends of Refugees related to a refugee family's need. I would be so grateful, if funds could be raised for her to seek the time @ Hopequest. Many thanks for those who started Crowdrise and those who give for such a time as this.
