BENEFITING: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
EVENT DATE: Jun 25, 2013
I can’t believe that I turn 50 this year! Wow!
I have been planning my birthday celebration for years and now THE-Day is only a few months away. When I first realized that I was turning half a century, yes, half of 100, I thought I should share the occasion with everyone that had positively touched my life.
I imagined a big bash with me telling people how they had contributed to making me who I am today. I would start with my sister who was there when I was born, move onto friends from elementary school, high school, college and each one of my jobs. I would include Matt and Doug who have shared with me what I would consider the best years of my life … being a mom and a wife.
I imagined my party at Jungle Island … where else would I have it? Jungle Island awoke in me a passion for animals and led me to become an animal advocate. The party would be in the Flamingo Café, just by the flamingos … those who know me, know that I love pink!
Well, these plans have changed dramatically. I have been thinking about my mom. I lost her in December last year and I miss her so very much. When I turned 30, she told me I should do something memorable for my birthday so I volunteered to feed the less fortunate. I still remember that day and my feeling of accomplishment!
So 20 years later, I have made a decision to honor my mother and to honor my birthday; I want to raise a minimum of $10,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). LLS has played a huge role in funding research that impacts the treatment of all types of cancer. In fact, recent studies have helped with therapies impacting both prostate and breast cancer, my father and my mother were affected by those horrible cancers respectively.
I will be raising money through June 30! Donations of $10, 25 or $50 are encouraged but don’t forget to leave me a personal message!
Please help me achieve this $10,000 goal for my 50th birthday!
