Emily's Study Abroad Bill
Organized by: Emily Holloway
Hi! I'm Emily, and I'm currently a senior in college. This summer, I was fortunate enough to be able to go on a study abroad trip to the UK for five whole weeks. I earned credit for this and had the experience of a lifetime, seeing places like London, Liverpool, Scarborough, and even Paris! The only downside to this trip was the cost. My parents were able to help fund some of my trip, which I am very grateful for. I had the support of family and friends as well, and I couldn't have asked for more generosity. However, I did happen to shell out some-- ok-- all of my savings for this trip.
- Now that I'm back, I have a credit card bill, and I'm stressed. I do have a job, but I'm getting paid minimum wage with little hours. I am looking for a second job as well and have had a few interviews, so I'm hopeful. However, this isn't exactly how I want to be spending my senior year in college...working two jobs with no social life. If it has to be done, so be it-- I don't want to be in debt.
- But if I can get even a little bit of funding from outside sources, that would alleviate so much stress. I just want these bills to be clear, and the burden to be lifted.
- Once my bills are paid, which are at about $1500 right now---the rest of any money earned would go into my school account to be used for next semesters tuition. I do receive financial aid, but only for a certain percentage of tuition so the extra money would cover the rest, as well as my parking pass and graduation fees (cap, gown, etc).
- I understand that there are SO many other people who need the money more than I do, and I respect that the money would potentially be better used towards them. But if you're feeling generous, and want to help a sister out-- well, you're awesome. Thanks guys!
