My sister was diagnosed with an inoperable grade 2 astrocytoma brain tumor on her optic pathway when she was only 3 1/2 months old. She is now 14, almost 15, years old. I was 2 then and I am now almost 17. She has had 2 major brain surgeries and 2 protocols of chemotherapy. My family has been going to Camp Sunshine for 9 years. Camp Sunshine truly saved my family. We have met so many amazing people there and it has been life-changing for us. As the sibling of the patient I struggled too, but the sibling journey is harder to understand. You don't deal with physical pain which everyone can see. You deal with emotional pain of which most people are not aware. At Camp Sunshine I went to sibling groups where I spoke with other siblings. There I realized I was not alone on my journey. Camp Sunshine is the most wonderful place in the world and it has helped me so much. My mom now volunteers at Camp with our pet therapy dog Max. I help run the sibling groups. This is my third year doing the plunge, and I do it to give back to a place that has given so much to me. Please donate to my plunge so I can help send more families to Camp Sunshine so they can be saved like my family was. Thank you!
