Emma de Louw
Dear friends, family and colleagues,
As you probably know, I’m currently living in Boston, USA, and I will be here for the next six months in order to gaining experience doing medical research. So far, this experience has been amazing, but there is one more thing that would make this experience even more perfect. Ever since I got into running, I’ve wanted to run the New York Marathon. As it turns out, this year, the New York half marathon will be during my time here in Boston, and even better, it will be on March 16th, my birthday! This is a huge opportunity that I’m very excited about, but I need your help!
In order to participate in the marathon, I will need to raise money to benefit a charity of my choice. Together with Merel Boom, another Dutch medical student who I met here in Boston, I decided to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation. The Epilepsy Foundation gives people with epilepsy the opportunity to get certain therapies, developmental trainings, they offer social programs and they help patients get a job. Merel is currently researching epilepsy and has told me about her experiences in the clinic with these children, what it means to live with epilepsy, how it changes lives, how it interrupts development of the brain and how incurable it is. Of course, being two adventurous, athletic, but most of all healthy students, we agreed that running this marathon and fundraising for the Epilepsy Foundation would be a great way of helping others and contributing to the world of medical research! This is where you come in.
The fundraising goal for each runner is a minimum of $1000. I know this is a lot of money, but I am hoping that with your help I will be able to reach this goal and be able to run in New York. So, my question to you is, will you be willing to make a donation to the Epilepsy Foundation (any amount is appreciated!) and help me fulfilling my dream? I understand these are economically hard times, so I don’t expect anything and please don’t feel obligated to respond. But, every dollar counts! If anything else, you will have the satisfaction of giving me the perfect birthday gift!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me at email@example.com
Thank you very much!
