Emma's Nicaragua Medical Mission
Organized by: Emmanuelle Garcia
EVENT DATE Jun 13, 2015
At the University of Nevada School of Medicine our goal is to promote education in culturally sensitive and culturally competent healthcare to enable physicians to provide more complete care to the underserved and culturally diverse populations within our communities. To accomplish this goal, I will be participating in an international community-building project in Nicaragua this summer.
I will be participating in a program known as Bridges to Community, an organization that UNSOM students have been working with for the past six years. My group and I will help to establish and run clinics in communities that do not have medical care, ultimately providing short-term care within a long-term infrastructure designed to provide communities with continuous health care services. The Bridges to Community organization is unique in that, while establishing these short-term clinics, the students will also work on community-building projects to better the community. Another unique aspect of this project is that the Bridges to Community organization works with the Nicaraguan government to ensure that the clinic is available to the patients that most need medical care.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like anymore information.
Any amount truly helps and is immensely appreciated.
