Employment Opportunity for a Disabled Youth
Organized by: Saad Masood Bhatti
Background\Context : Whenever I go to my village in Sialkot, I would see one guy, about 23 years of age, who could not speak properly. In fact, he can only pronunciate 40% of a word he says and one cannot understand what he is saying if one is new to interact with him. I would notice that he would knock door-to-door, asking people if they had any motor bike/motor car to wash or any other household chore to do. In return he would only get a nominal, goodwill tip (he never demanded for the payment though). Unfortunately, he would not get much to do, so he earned only around Rs 200/day. What shook me more was that he was a responsible member of his family. Being a son of a poor farmer, he always tried his level best to support his family financially. Perhaps that was the reason he did not go to attend school at any level. Summary of the program: 1. I am planning to make a Car Wash Service Station for XYZ. For that, I would need a lump sum of $500 (I will later break down this cost). I will run a fund raising campaign to meet the cost of the project in a way not limited to that I will: knock every door of my neighborhood, do fund raising in schools/colleges, and, look for an organization to partially fund this project. 2. I will look for an available piece of land in my village and will make a car washing ramp on it. In this way XYZ will get self employed. 3. He may further hire 1 person to assist him with the work. 4. He may also invite some person to open a tea kiosk at his service station so that his customers/visitors may enjoy a cup of tea while they watch their vehicles being washed there.
