For: The 72 orphan girls of Njoro, Kenya, seek donations to complete their orphanage structure which was destroyed during ethnic clashes in 2007, start their baking business, and initiate a social network.
By: The team, consisting of Trinity College students, has won the Davis Project for Peace Grant. http://www.davisprojectsforpeace.org/
Problem: Being an orphan is an irreversible reality. However, due to a lack of representation and guidance, as orphans are without traditional networks of ethnic, familial, and locational connections, they are socially ostracized or socially orphaned as well. The first step is to have a permanent (not a rented or makeshift) roof over their heads. Second, the girls will be connected to families in the nearby town, Nakuru, who will pledge to visit the girl(s) at least once every month. Third, the girls will have their own baking business, a risk-free source of income.
The project is happening - your donations will simply make it survive longer!
Revised Goal after Davis Grant: $10,000
