THE STORY:

Join our cause. Achieve justice across borders for migrant workers!

We are Global Workers Justice Alliance, and our unique cross-border network of human rights advocates and attorneys helps to change the lives of exploited migrant workers throughout Mexico, Central America, the U.S., and Canada.

With your help, we can lead efforts to give migrant workers the tools and information they need to obtain justice no matter where they are located.

This fact won't surprise you: millions of people cross national borders for employment every year. Workers who seek redress for labor violations find that leaving the country of employment – whether deported, unable to work due to an injury, or an expired visa – is tantamount to forfeiting their rights to compensation. Most of these workers are especially vulnerable due to a lack of language skills and knowledge of rights and resources available to them from the moment they are recruited to the moment they return home.  As a result, migrants workers are often defrauded during the recruitment process, cheated of wages, fall prey to human trafficking schemes, are injured, and suffer other serious forms of exploitation.

Although they face barriers when seeking justice while in the country of employment, it is much worse once they return home. The obstacles, both practical and legal, to achieving justice are nearly insurmountable from a foreign country. The result is that valid claims are routinely abandoned and thousands of workers never receive their stolen wages or treatment for debilitating workplace injuries. Without portable justice — the right and ability of transnational migrants to access justice across borders — these workers will continue to be used and abused within the globalized economy. Migrant workers should not have to check their legal rights at the border. They deserve better, they deserve a real shot at justice.

Please, support Global Workers this holiday season. Together we can make justice across borders a reality for all migrant workers.
