BENEFITING: EMPOWER SPINAL CORD INJURY INCORPORATED
On May 24th my Empower teammates and I will be running the Vermont City Marathon Relay!! What better way to spend Memorial Day Weekend, than participating in a race with some of my Empower family members, and raising money for a cause that is near and dear to my heart:) I hope that you can help me raise $500 for Empower SCI's summer residential rehabilitation program, a non-profit that I have poured 5 years of my life to make the world a little better for the 12 participants and numerous volunteers that attend (and myself, along the way).
Each of us has pledged to raise $500 for Empower as we train for this race, to help raise awareness for Empower SCI and for people living with spinal cord injury. Together that's $2500 for an amazing organization that has such a profound impact on the lives of both participants and volunteers!
We need your help to meet our goal and more importantly, to continue the work of this amazing organization that supports and empowers people living with spinal cord injuries! Every little bit counts!!!
More about Empower...
Empower SCI, Inc., is a non-profit organization established in 2011 by Jessica Goodine, Carrie Callahan and Elizabeth Lima Remillard. Empower SCI's Mission is to enable individuals with spinal cord injuries to lead happier, more meaningful, and more independent lives. Empower SCI seeks to fill the gap in the rehabilitation industry that has been created by a decrease in length of stays at rehabilitation hospitals and reimbursement for outpatient services during the recovery from a spinal cord injury.
Empower SCI runs a two-week Residential Rehabilitation Program at Stony Brook University on Long Island, as well as several Wheelchair Skills Clinics for all wheelchair users throughout the year. Participants in the two-week program participate in PT, OT, counseling, and an educational series, as well as tons of adaptive sports including surfing, kayaking, swimming, yoga, and hand-cycling! Clinician and student volunteers gain invaluable hands-on experience and knowledge that you'd never be exposed to in school or in the clinic. And most importantly, everyone involved gains a sense of empowerment and community that continues well beyond the two-week program and into their everyday life.
