Gordon Dalbey teaches that "Godly instruction only hits its mark after an ENCOUNTER with the living God." That is the inspiration for the name and focus of Encounter Ministries.
There is plenty of "Godly Instruction" but why does it seem that it isn't working? Because of the lack of ENCOUNTER with the deep and unending love of God. Gordon went on to tell me in a personal conversation that he would say that more bluntly this way.
--"Until you know your Abba loves you, everything is just restriction."
By God's leading we have built Encounter and it's ministries around the desire to help people Encounter this loving Father. For 12 years we have done that in Alabama, the remote areas of Southern Africa, Prisons in Texas, the Campus of UAB, just to name a few. God has blessed us with expanded opportunities each of these years in ministry. And we need your help to maintain and expand what has been entrusted to us.
Would you help by making a one-time-year-end donation to help us reach our goal of $15,000? Donations of any and every size would be of help. You can donate through this site or by sending a check to ENCOUNTER PO Box 841 Alabaster, AL 35007 By making a donation you will fuel the following ministry opportunities.
-Spiritual Direction/Intervention-for men, couples, families, and pastors to help maintain healthy spiritual lives in Christ, and most often, navigate through difficult circumstances they are facing.
-Prison Ministry-We train and take teams of men to lead Wild at Heart Boot Camp retreats for inmates. In the last 5 years we've taught over 600 inmates about the deep love of God, their identity as sons, and God's desire to heal their deepest wounds and set them free. Funds help sponsor teams, provide meals, support local ministers that house and feed teams, and provide materials and food for the prisoners.
-College Ministry-The last two years we have partnered with The Campus House to minister to college students in the Birmingham area (mainly the UAB Campus). Chris has taught regularly at the weekly gathering, helped coordinate outreach efforts, and walked closely with some of the students as well. This year we hired Johnny Lieske (former UAB student and Campus House regular) as our Director of College Missions. He works to reach the students on a personal level, coordinate activities and outreach opportunities, lead the guys small group, and take care of the Campus House. He is developing a student leadership team and working to expand our influence in the lives of young adults at this critical time in their lives.
-Ministry to Pastors-Sometimes the person whose job is to serve gets overlooked. His needs for counsel, friendship, and soul care can easily fall to the bottom of the To Do List. Each year we walk with a handful of ministers and pastors to tend to their hearts and provide shoulders to bear their deep burdens.
-Benevolence/Missions/Outreach-We partner with LifeTrek Global to provide humanitarian aid in Lesotho, Africa to at-risk children, families, and orphans. Funds can help with school fees, weekly feedings, school uniforms, and basic necessities like blankets. In showing the love of God in tangible ways many see and some hear the Good News. We also provide basic financial assistance (utilities, housing, etc) to local families. Several times each year through our community God points out families in need and we raise funds to help meet basic needs.
We are working to raise $15,000 as we wrap up 2015 and head into 2016. We expect opportunities to expand in each of these areas and your generous donations will directly fuel this expansion of the Kingdom.
Thanks you so much for your help. You are vital. Please help us by making a donation as 2015 comes to a close.
