If you've met me, you probably already know how much I care about this cause. TB is an infectious disease that we know well how to treat and prevent, and yet it still kills over a million people in the world every year. It doesn't have to be this way. Let's stop this ancient old disease and make the air easier to breath.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an airborne infectious disease caused by bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis that generally affects the lungs. Timor-Leste has the world’s 10th highest incidence of TB, the highest in the Southeas Asia region. Even though anti-TB medications are provided for free through the Global Fund and the Ministry of Health, poverty and limited public infrastructure remain a challenge to TB eradication.
Project Plus One has partnered with Bairo Pite Clinic, a not-for-profit health clinic in Timor-Leste to achieve a better outcome of TB care.
The program employs a team of healthcare workers equipped with motorbikes to make house calls. The team provides education for TB patients and their families. They screen family members for symptoms of TB and escort all symptomatic individuals as well as candidates for preventive therapy to care. After TB treatment has started, the team visits patients right at their homes to provide treatment support and monitoring until treatment is complete.
The program enables patients regardless of their socioeconomic status to complete TB therapy and enables the health system to detect TB earlier, treating more effectively, and preventing TB from spreading in the communities.
