BENEFITING: MPALA WILDLIFE FOUNDATION
THE STORY:
70% of Kenya's wildlife roams on private land outside of protected areas and national parks. Many endemic species, especially Grevy's zebra, Reticulated giraffe, and African wild dogs, are endeavoring to hold their own as traditional human land practices change. To reduce human-wildlife conflict, it is essential that the basic biology of these species is understood and their populations are monitored. Supporting this research on endangered and threatened animals in the heart of Laikipia District will provide insights that will allow scientists and pastoralists to work together as land uses change with development.
