I'm running the NYC Marathon to PREVENT and END homelessness in support of Hudson River Housing. On a SINGLE night there are over 600,000 homeless persons in the United States. These are big numbers, but we can't forget that behind each of those numbers is a person that deserves a better life. Which is the most important thing Hudson River Housing does. By providing quality, affordable housing, reclaiming vacant buildings, and stregthening communities, they're providing hope, opportunity and a future for thousands of people every year. This year, I'm running for Rhonda, Victor, Elizabeth, Michael, Chris, John, all those whose lives have been touched by Hudson River Housing, and especially for all those still in need of help.
We ARE making progress in preventing and ending homelessness. The numbers have been dropping every year since 2005. Hudson River Housing alone sheltered over 1,000 homeless households in the past year, and moved over 100 people who were chronically homeless - some not having a bed to call their own in a decade - into permanent housing.
And did I mention, I'm celebrating my 70TH BIRTHDAY this November, and this will be my 7th NYC Marathon? Last year I placed 16th in my age group, and I can't wait to do it again, this time with your support for a great cause!
