ORGANIZER: ENDOMETRIOSIS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA
Shortly after getting married to my beautiful wife, Alejandra, she was diagnosed with Stage Four endometriosis. Barely a couple of weeks back from our honeymoon, she was being rushed into emergency surgery to remove the endometriosis and ovarian cysts that for years had been causing her pain and discomfort. Surgery was just the initial step, followed by six months of Lupron injections which caused significant side effects such as abdominal pain, lack of energy, and volatile mood swings to name a few. Despite these daily setbacks, for about a year, I watched my wife demonstrate incredible amounts of strength and courage in order to try and provide a 'normal' life for us.
I cannot express the admiration and respect I have for my wife after watching her battle both disease and treatment. While I don't think I will ever have the same fight and determination as her, I wanted to find a challenge that I too could prove my strength and courage. I have never participated in anything close to a marathon, but I plan on crossing that finish line, after 26.2 miles, for my wife and for all those who have suffered directly and indirectly from this disease.
Please help me raise awareness for this incredibly common but misdiagnosed disease affecting millions of women.
