THE STORY:

Hello! My name is Deanna DiGesaro and I am running the NYC Marathon 2017 for the Endometriosis Foundation of America. I am running for my younger sister Jenna who was diagnosed with Endometriosis in her early twenties and has suffered greatly from this disease. There is no cure for this disease, which is why every dollar donated is another step closer to finding a cure.

About Me....

I have always been into health and wellness, but was never a runner. I started running a few years ago with my mom and sister Jenna and grew to love it more and more with each race. I love the running community and the fundraising teams who use their gifts to raise money and awareness for a good cause. This is my first marathon and I am eager, nervous, excited and scared. I know this is going to be a long training process, mentally and physically but I am ready for the challenge.

About Jenna....

Jenna is my younger sister. She has been a runner and an athlete since middle school. It was because of her that I started running, and with her that I ran my first half marathon. Jenna was diagnosed with Endometriosis in her early twenties. She has had multiple Endometriosis excision surgeries by the founder of this foundation, Dr. Tamer Seckin. Unfortunately the surgeries are not a cure, and are only a temporary solution. She has suffered from this disease physically, mentally and emotionally. She is the toughest person I know and that only inspires me more to raise money and awareness for Endometriosis.

About Endometriosis....

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) is found outside the uterus on other parts of the body. It affects girls and women during their most productive years, and can impact all aspects of their lives – school, careers, finances, relationships, and overall well being. Generally, endometriosis is found in the pelvic cavity. It can attach to any of the female reproductive organs (uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries), the uterosacral ligaments, the peritoneum, or any of the spaces between the bladder, uterus/vagina, and rectum.  Endometriosis can also be found, though less commonly, on the bladder, bowel, intestines, appendix or rectum. Many aspects of endometriosis are misunderstood and require further research.  Specifically, it is critical to define the different types of endometriosis and to understand their cause to carryout appropriate treatment.

About the Endometriosis Foundation of America...

The Endometriosis Foundation of America strives to increase disease recognition, provide advocacy, facilitate expert surgical training, and fund landmark endometriosis research. Engaged in a robust campaign to inform both the medical community and the public, the EFA places particular emphasis on the critical importance of early diagnosis and effective intervention while simultaneously providing education to the next generation of medical professionals and their patients.

Please consider donating to my run! Every dollar counts.... there is no donation too big or too small. Thank you!
