BENEFITING: ENDOMETRIOSIS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA
ORGANIZER: ENDOMETRIOSIS FOUNDATION OF AMERICA
As some of you may already know, almost three years ago I underwent laparoscopic surgery. I had spent years in pain dealing with excessive bleeding, bowel problems, fatigue, fainting, dyspareunia, and a bunch of other unpleasant symptoms. People told me that my pain was "normal". Multiple doctors I saw told me that I just needed to try a new birth control pill. But finally, I found a doctor who really listened to me when I suggested that maybe my symptoms were caused by endometriosis. I went into that surgery having no idea what they would find -- but I was honestly just happy that someone was taking me seriously. When I woke up and was told that they had excised endometrial lesions, I wanted to cry. The reason for the years of pain had finally been found...and finally I had a plan. I have had some set backs along the way, but I am currently much more healthy and am working towards becoming a physician assistant.
I am currently training for the 2017 NYC Marathon, and I am hoping to raise money for the Endometriosis Foundation of America. As both a future medical professional and a sufferer of this disease, this is an important cause to me. As I train and raise awareness to help the Endometriosis Foundation of America continue their incredible work, I am asking for your support. Your contribution will go towards furthering the foundation’s awareness campaigns, groundbreaking adolescent educational program, and research-related efforts. With your help, we can develop a greater understanding of endometriosis and help improve the quality of life for millions of girls and women.
