Through the "Step on the Bus" campaign, Gridlock Ministries will place exterior billboards on an army of city buses that travel the same routes where young girls, many barely in their teens, are forced to sell their bodies to strangers. In addition to providing a hotline number to call, the billboards will invite these girls to escape by simply stepping on the bus. The driver will dispatch a call, and a team of first responders will meet them at a designated stop farther down the route, whisking them to safety. Once secured, the girls will enter a comprehensive recovery program and, when they're ready, they'll even receive a college scholarship!
$10,000 will cover the cost of billboards on 4 bus routes over a three month period. The bus routes will canvass the North Side, the West Side, the South Side and downtown, and will include Roosevelt Rd. (Rte. 12), Broadway (Rte. 36), 79th Street (Rte. 79(, and Halsted (Rte. 8).
