Home - cozy rooms, fireplaces, rooms filled with family and friends, a place to feel safe and comfortable.
For too many of us in Northern California -especially those of us who live in the urban areas of the Bay Area – home is connected to concern and anxiety; fear that our home is becoming too expensive to maintain, that a landlord will give in to the temptation to raise the rent and take advantage of the soaring rental market (rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in San Francisco = $3,800 a month). We worry that finding a home with lower rents means a longer commute and less time with family and connecting to the community. We’re frustratedn that our kids won’t be able to take advantage of the resources our region offers because if you can’t afford to live here… you have to move away.
Enterprise is committed to keeping our communities intact and culturally and economically diverse. We are working to increase the supply of quality, affordable housing - making room for people of all income levels. We do this by sharing our expertise and resources with affordable housing developers, public officials, advocacy groups and community leaders so affordable homes are built and preserved, located near good transit and green spaces, and in pedestrian and bicycle friendly neighborhoods.
In 2015, California came up with funding from Cap and Trade revenues (money from the state’s biggest polluters) to decrease GHG emissions and build affordable homes near transit; and Enterprise Northern California helped many communities in the Bay Area win more than $11million dollars to do just that.
