I will be competing in the Hopkins Royal Triathlon on August 30 with Emerging Opportunities for Sustainability (EOS) International, a nonprofit organization that provides appropriate technology to end poverty in the developing world. I am inspired by EOS because they empower Nicaraguans to better their lives and community through innovative solutions.
I am striving to raise $750 for EOS International. I would really appreciate any contribution you can make toward my goal. All donations are tax deductible. Your donation will help EOS International provide low-cost, sustainable technology to villages in Nicaragua, the second poorest nation in the western hemisphere. These products include drip irrigation systems, biodigesters, fuel-efficient barrel ovens, solar electric systems, and water chlorination systems that generate income and improve health, while protecting the environment. EOS International strives to use appropriate technology to help families lift themselves out of poverty.
Many rural Nicaraguans who do not have access to clean water, nor the money or electricity to run a water chlorination plant in their communities. People are participating in many different active events all across North America to raise $2,400 to fund water chlorinators in San Fernando, Nicaragua. The area around San Fernando, adjacent to the border with Honduras, is very rural and the people survive on farming coffee, cattle, and subsistence crops. These inexpensive, low-tech, and locally repairable chlorinators will be installed in 12 small communities serving a total of 5000-6000 people. Treated water reduces diarrheal illnesses that lower quality of life and is potentially fatal, especially to children. This means for every $10 donated, two families are supported in staying healthy with something we take for granted - clean water. $200 pays for the chlorinator for an entire community.
Please consider any help you can give to this cause. Or join my team in the race! Thank you for your support!
