BENEFITING: Epilepsy Foundation
ORGANIZER: Epilepsy Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 30, 2014
The Epilepsy Foundation is definitely there to raise awareness and money to help fund the Epilepsy Foundation Mission. I totally agree with all that they do with this program nationwide.
However.......I must say that I am also selfish!!!!!!
For me, this year makes my 5, yes, FIVE, 5, years that I have been seizure free! I am 43 years old and I never imagined this piece of heaven existed.
All of us epileptics have our stories behind epilepsy and how it has affected our lives. I still can't believe the wonderful people that I have met and the little things in life that I have learned to appreciate and not take for granted. I can be alone with my amazing boys, all by myself or even drive a car to the grocery store, one mile from the house. I don't have to worry about going on a run and not ending up on the ground somewhere and not knowing who I am or where I am.
I want to do what I can do, to help other epileptics and their families, to stop their seizures! The people that I meet through these runs with the Epilepsy Foundation, have so much determinaton in doing whatever they can do to support their loved ones with epilepsy. So, for me, it's to help people with epilepsy experience all that life has to offer and to do what I have enjoyed for years with a true, deep meaning and purpose! Look out Seattle! My first time there and a huge 5 year celebration! Amen!
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. (Psalm 62:1-2)
Athletes vs. Epilepsy™ affirms this positive message and embodies it through action. Athletes vs. Epilepsy is a nationwide program for athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans to raise awareness and money to help fund the Epilepsy Foundation's mission. For our Athletes vs. Epilepsy, it’s about more than just the race, game, meet, etc. Each of our athletes also raise money and awareness on behalf of Epilepsy Foundation and our fight to stop seizures and SUDEP, find a cure and overcome the challenges created by epilepsy through efforts including education, advocacy and research to accelerate ideas into therapies.
