Welcome to my fundraising page for the 2012 ING New York City Marathon where I will be running to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York. As a person who has had epileptic seizures for the past thirteen years, my hope is that we can raise enough money so that the EFMNY can continue to educate people about seizure disorders as well as provide the resources necessary for New Yorkers with epilepsy to live life to the fullest!
I had my first epileptic seizure when I was seventeen years old. Up until that point, I had never really had any kind of health issue whatsoever. I suddenly went from being able to do basically anything I wanted to being worried about being able to drive, being left alone or even something as mundane as taking a shower. My family was worried sick, and really had no idea as to where to turn or what to expect.
Luckily, after a few more seizures in the next few years, I would be seizure free until last February on a Boston subway car. It was scary to think that something I thought was truly in the past was suddenly again going to be a part of my every day existance. With the support of my wife, family and many wonderful friends, I have been seizure-free ever since and look forward to a day when no one ever has to worry about themselves or someone they love having a seizure. That is why I am running.
Epilepsy Road Warriors
We're a team of people whose lives have been impacted by epilepsy. Some of us live with seizures. Some of us are running for loved ones. The fact is we are ALL part of the epilepsy community, because 1 out of every 26 people in the United States will develop a seizure disorder in their lifetime. That means that you or someone you know is already affected. So, join us and make your donation today. Together, we can empower individuals and families to live life to fullest with their seizure disorders while we strive for a cure.
The Epilepsy Road Warriors are part of November's National Epilepsy Month. All proceeds will go to raising epilepsy awareness and providing public education throughout New York City and the metropolitan area. All progams provided by the Epilepsy Institute which does business as the Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York (EFMNY).To learn more, please visit their web site HERE.
