Equality In Education
Organized by: Chutima J
EVENT DATE Jun 19, 2014
My name is Chutima Janchean and I'm originally from Thailand. Eight years ago, I had a dream of studying in United States. With the lack of financial support and resource, I didn't have an opportunity to attend the school of my choice. Not only the top universities in America are quite difficult to get in, they are costly and almost impossible for students from a poor family to attend; especially for those who are from another country and cannot qualify for the financial aid or borrow a student loan. I was fortunate enough to receive a partial scholarship to finish my bachelor degree in the U.S. However, I feel very passionate that every students should be able to attend their school of choice despite of their financial situation. My goal of attending the StartingBloc institute in Boston is to present this idea to the other fellows and hoping that I can convince them to vote on it. We would then start creating plans and form the non-profit organization called "Equality in Education". The objective of Equality in Education is to provide resource, mentorship, financial assistance, and scholarship to the first generation students from the low income family and the international students from the third world countries. Its mission is to allow every students to have access to the education they need in order to succeed in the real world.
Currently, I have a very limited resource on how to launch this non-profit organization. It has been one of my dreams to be able to give back and help others. so I'm hoping that attending the startingBloc will provide me resources, ideas, support, and other team members who can help me build this organization. Therefore, I'm doing a fundraising to pay for my tuition and expenses at the StartingBloc Institute.
On June 19th, 2014, I will meet other StartingBloc Candidates in Boston, MA, for the BOS '14 Institute for Social Innovation.
Through a series of workshops and activities designed to inspire, instruct, and stretch our limits, we'll learn directly from high impact entrepreneurs and change leaders, work with proven frameworks for delivering change, and build relationships with new life-long allies.
The curriculum includes a fresh look at global issues and will be a great stepping stone for me as I continue to start my own non-profit around my interests in providing the best education to those with a limited resource or lack of financial support.
Fellows come from organizations like GoldieBlox, Ayllu Initiative, Anza, eKindling, Indego Africa, Root Alliance and so many others. Their commitment to entrepreneurship and social innovation is inspiring.
Your support through my crowdfunding platform or sharing this message with your network will not only help me get to Boston, but keep me accountable to my own goals and ambitions. I commit to paying your generosity forward, multiplied a million times over.
The total cost breakdown for attending the StartBloc Institute are:
$176 roundtrip airfare from IAD to BOS
$211.96 for shared accommodations for 4 nights
$60 transportation to and from the airport
$75 misc. meals and drinks
$35 application fee
If your unable to give, I completly understand - you can help by sharing my message with your networks. You'll be surprised what a small group of committed people can accomplish.
