Most of you have known of my love of running. It is something that has helped me ward off the effects of my Type 1 diabetes, keep my sanity during trying times, helped me be a strong and healthy example for my family and friends. In many ways, running has helped define who I am. This year, it’s different.
This year, I’m using my passion for running to improve the lives of children in Cambodia
Specifically, my friends at my church, Community Christian Church of Sterling Heights, have joined me in training for the Detroit Free Press Marathon and Half Marathon on October 18th. Since early April, 30 of us, some experienced runners, some just starting, have met each Saturday morning, training through the cold, rain and heat to get ready to run 26.2 or 13.1 miles. But this incredible effort isn’t just about personal goals or our relationships with each our and our God.
NO. It goes deeper than this.
We are focused on raising funds to improve the lives of people in Cambodia. Outside of Phnom Penh, our church has a LIFE Center where we provide safe housing for 40 young girls, keeping them from the snares of human sex trafficking that runs rampant in Cambodia. At this same facility, we also provide Christian education to 350 young students. This school provides a strong, traditional education to a people that have little exposure to basic schooling. It also gives these children and their families an understanding of the immense love and grace of Jesus and understanding of what is morally right and wrong, so important in Cambodia where 97% of the population is Buddhist – a religion that does not recognize morals like this.
So will you help me and our team create positive change in the lives of these Cambodian children and their families with a donation to our cause? Our goal is big but so is our passion to change the lives of these children. Big or small, five dollars or fifty dollars...each dollar makes a significant impact for incredible good.
